Although most of the pearls you receive each week are clinical in nature, it is always vitally important to remain aware of prescription programs that can save your patients significant money.

Bausch + Lomb has paired up with Walgreens and other independent pharmacies throughout the U.S. to provide greater access to their most frequently prescribed medications throughout 2016. During the 2016 spring allergy season, branded allergy medications—including the anti-histamine/mast cell stabilizer Bepreve (bepotastine besilate, Bausch + Lomb) and the corticosteroid Alrex (loteprednol etabonate, Bausch + Lomb)—were made available for a copay of just $10! This special allergy medication program expired in June; however, Bausch + Lomb's complete line of branded ophthalmic drugs will be available for $35 throughout the rest of the year.

This benefit applies to both new prescriptions and refills. However, the following three conditions must be met:

  1. The doctor's office must send the prescription directly to a Walgreens or participating independent pharmacy.

  2. Patients must download the Bausch + Lomb Access coupon from www.bauschaccessprogram.com. Alternatively, local representatives can provide these coupons to your practice.

  3. Patients must complete the form and take it to a Walgreens or participating independent pharmacy to obtain their prescription.

Discounted pricing also is available for eligible uninsured patients, or those who pay cash. However, this program does not apply to patients who use Medicare part D.

Educating your patients about such cost-saving programs will help facilitate expanded access to branded medications and, in turn, top-level care.
