Bring the outdoor environment into practice design

Bright and Light

Monica Ma, OD, and her husband, Jonathan Reynon, OD, opened their practice in Cary, North Carolina, in a new shopping center. The huge windows and bright light lends an airiness to the optical. Dr. Ma contrasted the whites and neutrals in the office with green and blue accents. Great lighting is essential to showcasing the frames and an optical experience in trying on frames. Wood’s Welcome

Amy Tran, OD, of San Francisco, California, worked with a local craftsman to bring her visions of a welcoming practice to life. Light elm is used in the cabinets and to frame the large windows. Her white oak wood floor actually cost less than the original polished concrete she had in mind. Click here to read her full story.

Rock Solid

Belinda Dobson, OD, of College Station, Texas, says that the inspiration for the design of the 5,000-square-foot space came naturally. Since she loves Mediterranean architecture, she chose a Tuscan-style exterior with stucco, rock and a clay tile roof. “I grew up in a ranch in North Texas, so we incorporated some fossils into our rock work outside,” she says, “bringing a little bit of my history into the building.” Click here to read her full story.

The Great Outdoors

Christie Jackson, OD, of Truckee, California, is surrounded by the splendor of Lake Tahoe. Her practice brings in multiple elements of the mountain community in a space that merges ski lodge with medical practice. From the reclaimed barnwood that makes up the front desk and cabinet tops, the timbers framing the large windows, the sliding barn door and the rustic styling, the practice fits into its environs perfectly. City of Lights Inspired Design

Ana Vargas, OD, found the windows in this Sherman Oaks, California, location irresistible—not only for the amount of light that floods in but also for the street appeal they add to the practice. Passersby can see her eclectic décor and frame selection that is inspired by vintage French design. Click here to read her full story.
