has filed a civil suit against Alcon over an ad campaign that includes false and misleading claims about ReNu MultiPlus multipurpose contact lens solution and other contact lens care solutions, Bausch & Lomb says. Alcon is extensively reporting conclusions not supported by the research, thus intentionally misleading, confusing and deceiving the eye care community and consumers, says Robert Moore, vice president and general manager of Bausch & Lombs U.S. vision care and OTC eye care business.
Alcon had released no response at press time.

 

Menopause affects the cornea, reports a study in the May issue of the online BMC Ophthalmology journal. Specifically, a decrease in estrogen in postmenopausal women may cause steepening of corneal horizontal curvature.

 

The province of Ontario, Canada, passed a bill that expands optometric scope of practice to include therapeutic pharmaceutical agents. This legislation brings Ontario in line with 96% of the North American population that has this access to care, says the Ontario Association of Optometrists.
