CONTACT LENS PRODUCTS
Alcon Contact Lens Solution

Alcon recently launched its new contact lens solution, OPTI-FREE PureMoist Multi-Purpose Disinfecting Solution (MPDS). Containing the wetting agent HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix, it embeds itself on and within the lens surface to provide 16 hours of lens wettability, the company says. The solution’s ability to remove protein deposits and reduce lipid deposition facilitates moisture and comfort from insertion to removal.

OPTI-FREE PureMoist MPDS also continues to maintain the strong antimicrobial efficacy associated with its dual disinfectant system, Polyquad and Aldox, along with edetate disodium (EDTA) to improve overall activity against microorganisms, the company says.

DRY EYE
MGD Therapy
OcuSoft, in conjunction with Ardeo Health, will distribute Retaine MGD Opthalmic Emulsion, a new dry eye therapy under license from Novagali Pharma. Retaine MGD is a preservative-free, oil-in-water emulsion designed to help individuals suffering from moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction, a component of dry eye syndrome.

Using Novagali’s Novasorb technology, a proprietary cationic process of binding positively charged ions to the negatively charged ocular surface, Retaine will prolong corneal contact time in order to enhance comfort, OcuSoft says.

“Patients suffering from … dry eye will now have an alternative to expensive prescription (Rx) therapies,” says Robert Sykora, R.Ph., president and chief executive officer of Ardeo Health.

Moisture Release Eyewear
Eye Eco’s Tranquileyes moisture release eyewear provides natural, effective relief for patients suffering from mild to severe dry eye. Tranquileyes incorporates technology that helps stabilize the tear film, improve visual acuity and ease symptoms of eye dryness, redness and fatigue, the company says.

Its lightweight frame has two vented chambers, which contain foam inserts that continuously release moisture to the eye area. A foam-padded gasket and adjustable nose bridge help seal and protect eyes from wind, dust and pollen.

Tranquileyes moisture release eyewear is available in matte black or shiny black, with either gray or clear lenses, or demi tortoise with copper or clear lenses. The polycarbonate lenses are treated with an anti-fog coating and both the gray and copper lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection.

PATIENT CARE
Maskin Meibum Expressor

Rhein Medical announces the Maskin Meibum Expressor, developed in coordination with Steven L. Maskin, M.D. The new instrument is designed to remove meibum from lids.

To express meibum, advance the Expressor from the deep lid to the lid margin. The rollers increase pressure in the tarsal plate, advancing meibum through the orifice. The special diamond knurling on the rollers prevent slippage and enable the instrument to engage and roll against the smooth conjunctiva without abrading the mucosal surface, the company says. This reusable, autoclaveable instrument is available with a complimentary instructional video and offered for a 30-day surgical evaluation without obligation.
